Come Have a Groovy Time at this Year's Grangestock

“You ain’t seen nothin’ till you’ve seen Dale Baker sing Me and My Bobbie McGee,” chuckled American River Grange Master Bill Thomas.

But it happened… at last year’s groovy grangestock, a day-long festival featuring a dozen bands playing hits from the 60’s and 70’s, Janis Joplin and Joe Cocker imitations, delicious and nutritious foods, ice cream, fun games and craft vendors.

This year, grangestock will take place on July 17, 2010 from 11:00am till dark at the Orangevale Grange’s beautiful outdoor natural amphitheater. Everyone is welcomed and the event is family-friendly. Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas.

“You aren’t suppose to have this much fun at a Grange event,” laughed Granger Lisa Blum.

Last year, Grangers came from all over the state, wearing tie-die shirts, bandanas and love beads to recall that crazy era that brought us hippies, hot pants & Hubert Humphrey. Prizes will be awarded for the best impersonations of celebrities from the 60’s & 70’s.

Donations of $10 paid at the event go towards GREAT (Grange Relief Emergency Action Team). GREAT provides emergency assistance to Grange members that are victims of disasters.

Bands for this year’s grangestock will include the Grangeful Dead, O Street, M3 Squared, Leftovers, William Mylar, the Radios, KD, and Rio Linda Swamp Thing. Comedy and contests take place between the bands.

Delicious and nutritious food will be served at Alice’s Restaurant, inside the hall. Last year, the falafels were a big hit. Vendors sell 60’s memorabilia, beads, jewelry, leather crafts and more.
