Family Fair Fun at the Orangevale Grange

by Leslie Parker

Time to “join” the Orangevale Grange #354, learn a bit and have lots of fun! To celebrate Grange Month, Orangevale Grange presents The Grange Family Fair and extends an invitation to anyone and everyone to come to our Grange. Of course, new members get their dues for the remainder of the calendar year free. Also free is the admission to the Grange Family Fair.

We have a diverse collection of activities so that each member of the family can find something to do, something to watch, something to intrigue them.  There will be vendors, performers, animals, crafts, games, and activities, along with food, live music, public service displays and much more. There will be other local not-for-profit organizations and businesses on hand demonstrating or exhibiting as well.

Returning this year by popular demand are the Bake Walk, Grange Grill, Kid Zone and Toilet Bowl Challenge.

2010 Toilet Bowl Race WinnersRemember as a kid winning a whole cake when the number you were standing one was called? Orangevale Grange’s version, the Bake Walk, includes more than cakes. Members donate delectable delights and area supermarkets donate too! So for a buck, you can satisfy your whole family’s sweet tooth.

What’s a Fair without food? The simple fare of the Grange Grill provides yummy snacks to carry you through the day. This years’ menu features Hot Dogs with all the fixings, Nachos, Cookies, drink, Kettlecorn and taste kits for our First Annual Chili Cook-off.

Our Kid Zone is open to adults too! Scheduled are experts in Bow and Arrow handling, who will teach and allow attendees to try it out for themselves. We have static games such as Washers, old school sticks and wheels, mini skill games like TicTacToe, our ever popular Goofy Golf and much more.

Last year when we celebrated our 100 Years of Community birthday event, we had our inaugural Toilet Bowl Challenge! Entrants built their porcelain chariots and raced against each other. Grange member and Past State Master Bob Clouse and his Clouse Insurance team took first place. You can actually see a video of that and other races by visiting Orangevale Grange’s Facebook page. (www.facebook.com/OrangevaleGrange).

Anyone can register now as a family, Grange or business, to enter our Second Annual Toilet Bowl Challenge!!  Registration form can be found and downloaded from either of our websites. www.OrangevaleGrange.org OR www.GrangeFamilyFair.org.

If you are interested in participating as a vendor, or a business call Cindy Sue at (916) 988-4810. You can download the registration form from our website.

Are you a Youth and need to accumulate Community Service hours? Call Jerry (916) 723-1031, and accomplish your service by having fun! Any others who would like to volunteer are welcome too. We need help with the Kid Zone games, the bounce house, the bake walk, the parking lot, and much more.

Come join us for the fun!
